Happy National Jelly Bean Day – April 22, 2014
I first became aware of this day when Emily was in 4-H and she and a friend were scheduled to give a presentation in April when they were 5th graders. If I remember correctly, Allie loved Jelly Beans and the girls came laughing to their mothers ( that silly -“We know our mothers won’t approve, but it’s worth a try!”laugh) that they had a brilliant idea for a presentation. Much to the girls’ dismay we said, “Great idea!” So, they began researching, discovering all kinds of interesting facts about the confectionary delight!
The next time I was reminded of National Jelly Bean Day was Emily’s eighth grade year when I was her pre-algebra teacher. Yes, any chance to have food in math class was worth a try! Some of the activities included Guessing (estimating) the jelly beans in a jar, fraction activities, and studying the labels on various packages – calculating the calories, cost, and servings per bag. Speaking of labels. LOOK at one of the first things on the label!!
I am excited to share that as corn growers we contribute a main ingredient in Jelly Beans – corn syrup! Read more about corn syrup.

Happy National Jelly Bean Day!

Love this post! What a fun comparison and I too learned something new. Jelly beans and agriculture are definitely connected.
